6 Kitchen Cabinet Must Haves

Kitchen Cabinet Goals in the Making

Thanks to a five year career in real estate, I’ve see some pretty glorious kitchens. From built-in cutting boards that are directly over the trash bin for easy waste removal, to built-in knife block drawers that keep things separate and organized. There have been a handful of showstoppers that have me thinking of all of my own personal must haves with my upcoming kitchen renovations.

Although I would love to do them all, I’ve narrowed down my top picks for my 10 x 12 kitchen cabinets. These will help me to maximize space, organization, and the minimalist countertop look that I desire.

1

Small Kitchen Appliance Garage

I hardly can help contain myself with this one! I truly dislike having things like toasters, blenders, coffee makers, and the like sitting on countertops. I personally think it makes the appearance of a kitchen busier than it needs to, and the extra electrical cords hanging around drive me a bit crazy. I have all of mine nestled away in cabinet space, but how great would it be to have a pull out drawer in a pantry, with electrical outlets built-in, so that you would be able to store and use them all in one place. Mind blowing right!! This one is by far at the top of my list!

2

Spice Cabinet Rack

One of the things I love the most about my current duplex unit is my spice cupboard. It is a stand alone, 8 shelf, original 1900 spice cabinet that is glorious and will truly be missed. To ensure these stay organized and have “a home” I will be working with my cabinet maker to build out spice racks either on the inside of a cabinet door or a built-in shelving method. Either way, these little guys will be well cared for.

3

Microwave Cubby

Similar to my love of hiding away my small kitchen appliances and I would love to do this with my microwave. Gone are the days where I host them on a countertop or above the stove. Instead I would love to either build a space for them in a hidden lower cabinet, or have my custom cabinet build create a microwave cubby in the pantry. This is what adulting kitchen dreams are all about!

4

Trash + Recycling Bins

Thanks to my vision of removing a wall, I will be working with my contractors to build out an extra deep peninsula. This will be the home of barstools on one side and my built-in trash and recycling bins on the other side. Pretty exciting right?! Gone are the days where my trash can is going to sit out in the wide open space. By leveraging some of my storage for these items, I’m going to once again tackle my goal of minimizing the appearance of “extra” items out and about.

5

Pull Out Corner Cabinet

No space left behind is going to be my motto for this bada** kitchen remodel. That includes the infamous corner cabinet. Instead of leveraging a good old lazy Susan, I’m going to be pushing for pull-out cabinet functions. I like the added function of being able to see all of my stored items at once vs. spinning them around in a circle. It’s all in the details my friends.

6

Dividers

Another “like to have” item on my kitchen cabinet wishlist are built-in dividers. I’m talking utensil drawer dividers, cookie sheet dividers, etc. By not only making space for these items, but by also adding an added touch of organization, it’s my hope to gain extra space elsewhere.

Now comes the time where I take all of these lofty cabinet goals and see what my custom cabinet bill damage shakes out to. Say a little prayer for me and my pocketbook over the next couple of months.

Cheers!
