DIY Gallery Wall

This Tidbit Tuesday is one to save. You’re not going to want to miss out on this handy dandy little trick!

Raise your hand if you’ve painfully (tried or successfully) hung a symmetric gallery wall. Did you put more holes in the wall than you would care to share? If so, I’ve got just the trick for you.

Thanks to Instagram, I was able to learn that this doesn’t have to be a struggle! There is an easier way! If you have some old wrapping paper laying around and it just so happens to have the boarders on the back to help cut straight lines when wrapping presents, you’re in luck!

Steps:

  1. First, measure the size of your frames you will be hanging for both width and height.

  2. Then, multiple the measurement by the number of frames across and down. (Example: 4 frames across and 2 frames down)

  3. Then determine what amount of space you plan to leave between each frame; both side to side and top to bottom if you have multiple rows.

  4. Add this additional length and width to your frame measurement.

  5. Using the total, cut your wrapping paper to size. I typically add a couple inches on the top/bottom and sides for buffer.

  6. From there, determine your placement on the wall, level the wrapping paper so it lays flat, and then tape in place.

SHOP THE POST:

It’s as easy as that! Once you get the first frame hung, the rest will be a breeze.

Although you are using the wrapping paper grid to help you line up the frames appropriately, I do recommend that you ensure your nails or screws are level as you work your way through. The slightest tap up or down can make a difference as you’re hanging your photos/artwork, and it can be an eyesore if you’re a perfectionist like me.

After all of your nails/screws are in, all you need to do is tear off the wrapping paper, remove any excess tape and vuala! You’re done!

Good luck!
